Mathematics and Physics Minor Curriculum

Requirements for a Minor in Physics

A minor in Physics provides a rigorous foundation in physics for students who would like to become more knowledgeable in Physics for future options or to increase the value of the student's major concentration. Any 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ student can receive a Minor in Physics if he or she completes the following required courses:

Core Courses in Physics (19 Credit Hours)

General Physics I; PHYS 153 (3) & PHYS 153 L (1)
General Physics II; PHYS 154 (3) &PHYS 154 L (1)
Modern Physics; PHYS 219 (3)

Additional 8-9 Hours from the following Courses (300 or 400 Level Physics courses):

PHYS 304-Thermodynamics (3)
PHYS 305-Mechanics I (3)
PHYS 306-Mechanics II (3)
PHYS 350-Electronics (3)
PHYS 401-Advanced Laboratory (2)
PHYS 400- Electronic Properties of Materials (3)
PHYS 403- Electromagnetic Theory I (3)
PHYS 404- Electromagnetic Theory II (3)
PHYS 410-Quantum Mechanics I (3)
PHYS 423-Projects in Physics (3)

NOTE:
PHYS 153 and PHYS 154 are calculus based courses, therefore, non-science majors or those students who do not require Calculus I (MATH 153) and Calculus II (MATH 154) will be required to take MATH 153 and MATH 154 in appropriate order.
